In any creative field, like drawing, design, or illustration, mistakes are inevitable. In fact, embracing mistakes is a key to developing creativity. Especially as beginners, focusing less on perfection and more on simply doing is the greatest learning tool we have.

1. Reframe Mistakes as Positive Steps

In the creative process, every mistake is part of the journey to success. When things don’t go as planned, see each attempt as a step forward. Remind yourself, “This is all part of learning.” As a beginner, I have found that accepting my inexperience and continuing each day, even on rough days, has been essential for growth.

Instead of aiming to create a masterpiece, set a simple goal of “sketching something every day.” Daily, small drawing sessions help you discover your unique style, and the more attempts you make, the more you learn. I started by drawing simple lines and small objects, and gradually, I’m working up to more complex drawings.

Creative projects are enjoyable because of trial and error. Every time you encounter a setback, ask, “What could I change to improve?” This way, both your observation and adaptability improve. Trying different sketching styles or approaches can also lead to new discoveries, especially as a beginner.
